Facing a Flat spell and dealing with colder water.

I took a peek at Magic Seaweed's forecast for NH this morning and
boy it looks pretty bleak. Cold and bleak. I think we may actually have a week without waves. Not sure how much stock you put into surf forecasters like Magic Seaweed, but they have been pretty accurate for the most part. But you take a look here and tell me.

We all might want to get in some early Christmas shopping this week, or get other projects done before the next swell hits. And I do not know when that will be, but if there's one thing I've learned about surfing over the years, it's this. You better get stuff done while you can.

The surf Gods pay no attention to your work schedule.

This was the surf on Friday. November 14th, 2014. It was pretty damn good out there. The winds were off shore and the faces were really clean. Not big per se, but clean. Heard a lot of the boys and girls complaining about the cold. Pretty much everyone is still in 4/3's but
it would do you all well to either get a new winter suit or get your
existing suit repaired. Winter is coming.

My good friend from the west coast Jeff Chamberlain took a photo of the late John "JT" Taylor in Tortola BVI in January of 1979. The program for JT's service on 11/1/14 had a nice rendering from that photo by artist Susan Smith. Jeff was truly honored to have his photo be the subject of this great painting.

*His words were also printed on the inside in a nice inscription.

So I had the distinct pleasure to spend time with a handful of WWII war heroes the other night. On November 10th, 2014 at the Galley Hatch in Hampton, we attend the annual Marine Corps Birthday. And it just so happened that these three Marines were on hand to celebrate the 239th Marine Corps Birthday.

From left to right is Jerry McConnell age 90 who fought on Guadalcanal in 1942. That was the first US victory after Pearl Harbor. In the middle is Warren White age 88. He was with the occupation forces on the mainland of Japan. And finally on the right is Joe Hammond age 84. Joe fought in the most intense fighting in Marine Corps history. He fought on Iwo Jima.

Over 6,000 Marines were killed on Iwo Jima. The fighting lasted over a month. All the 22,000 Japanese defenders were killed except for 1,000. The Marines who fought in WWII are all heroes. As is any veteran who fought in WWII. There are not many WWII vets still walking around. It's imperative for you to thank them if you see one. Not just on V-day. But every day.

When I stepped out of the vehicle that night after the birthday gathering, I was greeted by this on the front porch.

Pretty cool. Jon Anderson made a family flag using the Marine Corps colors. Thank you Jon, this was a perfect end to a enjoyable evening spending time with my brother and sister Marines with our spouses.

Ok this was a first. At least for me. I got to play my electric guitar and sing on the annual Veteran's Day assembly at Marston School on Monday. Not sure how many of those 3rd thru 5th graders ever heard of Jimi Hendrix before I played "Little Wing", but I do know their little minds were blown when I stepped up and joined music director Gus Carlson (who is a great player himself). It was fun and memorable.

I am no longer the Commander at my local Legion Post so this was a different role for me. Albeit a very comfortable one for me.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

The sad story this week has got to be the Bill Cosby rape allegations. Not sure what to make of this. I know how I would feel if it's true, and I know how I would feel if it's false. Either case, this man's reputation has been scarred. Maybe beyond repair.

With all the news coming from Feurgeson Missouri with the BROWN grand jury story about to break, it is going to be a hell week in these United States this whole week. Bill Cosby is very outspoken about the way most black youths portray themselves. Saying prayers for all involved in both cases.

Okay, let's all take a minute, and enjoy the weekly
humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001. Here we see KSM sitting in the back seat of Kim Kardasian's vehicle. All the news about Kim's latest "big butt" photos has got everyone in an uproar.
And KSM had to get in on the action.

Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11
the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the
face. You're so very welcome KSM fans.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of extra wide stretch pants at Home Depot this week.

My CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below
on this page.) Started on July 26, 2010 ENDED July 26, 2011.
A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- Jay Hammer and Joe Somogyi 1974.
(Below) Looking closely at the enlarged version of this photo you might recognize a few individuals in the background. You might, but I couldn't. This could be on Cusack road. Hard to tell. There's no mistaking the two surfers though. Jay Hammer and Joe Somogyi. I remember that shirt that Joe has on. Funny how it all came back when I saw this pic. That shirt. Jay thank god is still with us, but Joe left way to early. Just four years after this photo was taken he passed away. I am going to have a "In Memoriam" page for all the departed surfers from the NH surf scene. Lord knows that list is growing. I better get moving before I end up on it before it's done.. We welcome all Surf Related pics from our Readers. Just make sure they are at least 900 pixels wide. If you have any OLD photos of local New England surfers and or of local New England surfing, we would love to see them and share them with our readers.

Ralph Fatello LIVE at Flatbread , Hampton, NH 10-30-14 IN THIS PLACE

Another clip from my first solo show. This song is by Robin Trower. It's called IN THIS PLACE. I've used it for my old surf movies back in the day (1974). Such a beautiful song. I don't really do it justice with just me on an acoustic. But I gave it a shot. Hope you like it.
